About Al Midgett
About the filmmaker
Alfred Midgett was born on August 29, 1957 in Virginia Beach and has lived there most his life. He graduated from Ferrum College class of ’79 and married Margaret in 1989. They had a premature son in ’93, named Matt who survived against tremendous odds. The impact of Matt’s difficult inspired Al to give back to the community. Al created the Noblemen in ’95 and it as flourished since then, gaining recognition from the community and growing to reach more and more people every day.
The person behind the camera putting all the clips together is a sophomore at Christopher Newport University named Kristin Monteith. She met Al Midgett when she joined "Nobleteens" in her freshmen year of high school and has since been inspired to keep on doing service projects.
It’s Personal
I have known Al for five years now. In high school, our group became close to Al, who attended our meetings and helped ups plan. And during those four years with him and other "Noblemen" I learned about the gift he mentions in this video. Giving back is something one should do, not only as an obligation but as a treat to oneself. The feeling of seeing one's effect on others, watching them smile because you took some time out of your not-so-busy schedule to help them is an unimaginable feeling of warmth and worth. And without Al I would have never have experienced how incredible it is to be a philanthropist.

"The Gift that Gives"

“Many remember fondly their involvement in high school clubs that provided some community service, or college fraternity or sorority membership activities for various charities. They had fun hanging out with friends while helping others. It’s a good feeling, and a good formula.” – from Normal to Noble by Al Midgett, founder of "Noblemen," "Noblewomen" and "Noble Teens."
