2015 • About Christopher Newport University
A retired soldier who continues to serve. A woman whose adversities inspired her to become a special education teacher. A school teacher who became an 'adopted Grandmother.' Surprising and inspiring stories from elders in the Newport News, Virginia, area—in photos, videos, audio, and nonfiction.

WELCOME TO OUR FINAL EDITION of the

Wisdom of Age Project/hr website. The elders profiled here in photos, audio, video, and nonfiction graciously spent time with students in a college documentary studies class in the spring semester of 2017 (January-April). All live in and around Newport News, Va., where Christopher Newport University is located.

The goal of the class was simple: To get to know our elders in personal, intimate ways by listening to life stories where they work and live. As each of the students will tell you—and enthusiastically—the experience was eye-opening, and sometimes, life-changing.
